Mosquito Management

8/30/2014

Recently we have tried a new Organic product (new to us) and find it has worked to almost completely rid our yard of Mosquitos!

I say almost because we are still outside and we have no control over our neighbors properties so a  bug is free to fly where it wants but they are no longer living in our yard!

I don't know if you are aware of it but Garlic Repels Mosquitos and we are now looking into offering a new service Featuring this Organic Product Soon to be Mosquito Management a division of Jimmy's Lawn Sprinkler Services

Just one spraying of all natural, liquid garlic-based Mosquito Barrier will keep mosquitoes out of your yard and away from your home, 24 hours a day for nearly a month.

Mosquitoes can't tolerate garlic - that's why there are no mosquitoes in a garlic field!

Being used right now by City Governments for parks, golf courses and school grounds - because it works (read the testimonials).

We have found a local testimonial

Di Maggio's on the Bay
Brewer Capri Marina
Port Washington, New York

"Mosquito Barrier has done more than we could have ever hope for. Our Di Maggio's on the Bay water front restaurant at the Brewer Capri Marina in Port Washington has a 3000 square foot dining deck that is built over Manhasset Bay. Before Mosquito Barrier our outdoor diners would be plagued with all sorts of annoying biting insects. These insects lived under the deck along the water line. They came up to the dining deck via the spaces between the decking. As a result, customers would skip desert and coffee. After we applied one application of Mosquito Barrier our outdoor deck became the most sought after seating for our restaurant. Diners now enjoy a fine leisurely meal over looking the Manhasset Bay, complete with desert and coffee without being pestered by bothersome biting insect.

The garlic scent, though strong while in its container as concentrated, dissipates away in about fifteen minutes after application. Although the manufacture recommends application every thirty- (30) days, we apply it about twenty- (20) days. We attribute this to the constant washing of the outdoor deck, furniture and the like. In so much as we are on the water, the fact that this product is one hundred (100%) organic is a bonus. We are happy to inform our customers that the biting insect population can be eradicated with an application of an organic product such as your Mosquito Barrier.

And lastly Kevin, we would certainly intend to purchase Mosquito Barrier again."

Thank you,

Eddy & Angelo, Owners
Di Maggio's on the Bay

More Blue Fertilizer

9/25/2013

So today I find another homeowner with same problem, brown grass and what do I find, Blue Fertilize, so I am pretty sure this is the problem, and www.news12.com is doing a week long series on ground water pollutants but I also went to my friend Google and found this article:#13: Is
That Blue Fertilizer Safe?  Is it Organic?

I’ve had many people ask me if that popular “blue fertilizer” is a
good choice.  The short
answer is - "No!"

Here is what Rodale says:

“…is a synthetic
fertilizer that contains ammonium phosphate and several other
chemicals that can be toxic to your soil and plants. It is prohibited
from use in
certified-organic farming."

Here’s what soil expert Robert Parnes, Ph.D., says in his book
"Fertile Soil":

"[Ammonium fertilizer] acidifies the soil, and thus it is probably
more harmful to
soil organisms than any other nitrogen
fertilizer. The application has to be timed
carefully and
placed properly to avoid burning the leaves and roots.  In addition,
ammonium tends to inhibit the release of potassium.
 Ammonium fertilizers are
deliberately manufactured
to be spread at high application rates in order to
obtain
maximum yields with no regard to adverse effects on the soil. Probably
nowhere is the conflict between the mass production of food to feed the
world
and the preservation of the soil more obvious than
in the confrontation over the
use of either ammonium
fertilizers or liquid ammonia."

And there’s more: long-term studies at the University of Wisconsin
have shown that
acidic chemical fertilizers are causing
serious, permanent damage to our soils. Usually
these
fertilizers are also highly soluble, so they leach away and pollute our water

systems, too.

Soil
fertility authority Garn Wallace, Ph.D., of Wallace Laboratories in El Segundo,

California, points out that the blue fertilizer contains
muriate of potash, which contains
excess chlorine that
will burn plants and inhibit the uptake of nitrogen. Dr. Wallace also
warns that these chemical fertilizers often contain unsafe levels of
zinc and copper that
will be toxic to soil life.

Soil,
being everything, must contain
life in the
form of microscopic bacteria
and other weird looking life
forms.
Use of shortcuts is never recommended, and
this
blue fertilizer, despite millions of dollars worth of marketing, can be nasty
for
sustainable gardening.

Chemical fertilizers can harm the soil, as Rodale's Encyclopedia
notes:

"Soluble chemical fertilizers contain mineral salts that are readily
available for
uptake by plant roots. However, these salts
do not provide a food source for soil
microorganisms and
earthworms, and will even repel earthworms because they
acidify the soil. Over time, soils treated only with synthetic chemical
fertilizers will
have decreased organic matter and altered
biological activity. And as soil
structure declines and
water-holding capacity diminishes, a greater proportion of
the soluble chemical fertilizers applied will leach through the soil.
Ever-
increasing amounts of chemicals will be needed to
feed the plants."

Feed the soil – if you feed the soil,
it will improve the soil’s texture, stimulate microbial
life, and help prevent disease, all the while giving your plants plenty
of nutrients to feed
off of.

Plants want to live off of the nutrients in the soil, not some blue
chemical concoction.  If
you feed your soil, then
your plants will eat well, they will have good beds to thrive in,
and they will produce healthy fruits and vegetables.

Remember, all synthetic chemical fertilizers contain poisons,
 pollute water, destroy
microbes in the soil, burn
roots unless heavily watered, require constant watering,
contain less micro-nutrition and are heavily laden with salt.

THE CHOICE IS CLEAR –
ORGANIC IS BETTER!

September Sprinklers

September is normally a good month for Lawns because of ample rainfall, however there is a growing problem other than the lack of rain and that is "in my opinion" Fertilizer,
I have been called to several homes in the Month of September for brown grass and what I found they all have in common is Fertilizer as seen in photo on left, all the small white dots are Fertilizer pellets and I believe is the cause of the Brown Lawn "Fertilizer Burn"
All the Lawn Sprinkler Systems were on and working well, so my suggestion is this, and again its just my opinion,
If you are going to use a Fertilizer, Weed Killer, Grub Killer Program you should be sure you are using a Certified Applicator who will use the proper products at the proper times of the season with the proper application tools, I have seen people throwing who knows what on Lawns by hand like it was chicken feed, Fertilizer is not chicken feed and it can and will Kill your Lawn when used incorrectly.

The Dog Days of August

As what is suppose to be the one of the hottest Months here in the Northeast had us starting out needing Rain Sensors on our Lawn Sprinkler Systems,
but as I drive around I see many Lawn Sprinkler Systems watering in the rain and after heavy rain just the day before, and this is both expensive and wasteful use of water that is not needed on these rainy days and weeks which we have been seeing so far during the Month of August, so if you see your Automatic Lawn Sprinkler System watering in rainy weather you should consider the small investment in a Hunter Rain-Clik rain sensor to make your Automatic Lawn Sprinkler System truly Automatic,
The Hunter Rain-Clik, a smart choice.
